The performance extends this experience into a shared Performative Landscape. Using water from the Rance, I create a temporary space in which the audience is invited to enter an encounter with water, memory and the possibility of discovering a different way of resisting.
I approach water as a carrier of knowledge: a material through which I experienced an ancestral wisdom of letting go, surviving, continuing and beginning again. The performance draws from this knowledge. Here the water becomes a meeting point between my experience and the experiences of others. Through movement, presence and shared attention, the Performative Landscape opens a space in which fear, grief, uncertainty and healing can coexist.
I am not attempting to reproduce my experience of the Rance, but to activate a landscape in which others can encounter their own memories and bodily knowledge. The performance becomes an invitation to experience, even briefly, the possibility of being held rather than holding everything oneself—and to glimpse a different form of resilience.
BIO
Guadalupe Aldrete is an interdisciplinary artist who creates immersive, performative landscapes through an interconnection of performance, painting, installation, video and photography. Through materials such as textiles, pigments, metallic foils, and ceramics, her work explores memory, familial and ancestral, historical continuity, and human connection. She invites audiences to reflect on their own somatic and ancestral memory, bridging the past and the present.
She has exhibited internationally including the Klima Biennale Wien (2026), the Austrian Künstlerhaus (2025), the Infinite Present Festival in Ljubljana (2024), MMSU Rijeka (2018) and PCP at Science Gallery London (2023). Her solo exhibitions include Chamber III. Through the Surface (WAM Museum, Vienna, 2024), Chamber II. Reflecting River (Mz Balthasar Lab, 2024) and Un Pueblo (eindorf Kunstraum, 2023). Aldrete was an artist-in-residence at the Women’s Museum Hittisau (2021) and the Lushan Art Museum in China (2018). She also received the TQW ‘Stipendium für Körper- und Performancepraktiken’ in Vienna in 2023 and became a member of the Austrian Artists Association in the same year.
